Composer’s note — English translation
“They were still alive when I began gathering ideas for their requiem. I loved them very much. I knew they were going to die, and I knew it would hurt. I also knew that then I would have to write. Afterwards, it would hurt less.
I was still little, and often lonely. I imagined tiny creatures living in my coat pocket. Whenever I wanted, I could take them out and pass the time with them. It was great fun.
Then one day they died, and yet I did not write their requiem. I was afraid that doing so would confine them within an imperfect, human-made form. I wanted them to be free, to come and go as they pleased.
But now, after so many years, as the memories are slipping away at an alarming pace, I miss them terribly. Now it is time to write their music, and put the manuscript paper in my pocket.”
