Watch the Solti Competition semifinals with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra
DOT-DOT-LINE., commissioned by Müpa Budapest for the 2026 Solti International Conducting Competition, can now be found in the recordings of both semifinal rounds on medici.tv.
The semifinals took place on 5 and 6 October in the Grand Hall of the Liszt Academy in Budapest, with the Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Alongside arias by Mozart and Puccini, the repertoire included two new Hungarian orchestral works: Judit Varga’s DOT-DOT-LINE. and the first movement of Levente Gyöngyösi’s Symphony No. 5. The contemporary work assigned to each conductor was decided by draw.
Written for the competition, DOT-DOT-LINE. lasts approximately seven minutes. The recordings offer a chance to hear the piece in the context for which it was commissioned, as young conductors work with the orchestra in the semifinal round.
The ten semifinalists were Francesco Cagnasso, Virgil Fok Chin Wai, Fernando Gaggini, Yukuang Jin, Sungjin Kim, Yuji Maruoka, Nitai Rach, Apor Szüts, Drummado Wijnhamer and Yu-Te Wu.
